Access School
Access School offers innovative SEN education within a stable, tailored learning environment for young people aged 5 to 17 with Attachment and Trauma/SEMH/ASD/PDA/MLD.
Access School is an innovative SEN school in Shropshire where children are encouraged to be the best they can be.
“Pupils feel truly valued by the staff. For many who previously struggled at school, starting at Access is a fresh start. Here, they are welcomed, cared for and feel safe” Ofsted, 2019
Converted from a working farm in the heartland of rural Shropshire, we have established a fantastic reputation as a vibrant, pro-active school dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for our pupils.
The school setting, near Wem, is uniquely therapeutic and calming. Pupils who have struggled in traditional mainstream settings are helped to stabilise and thrive in a therapeutic learning environment.
With a qualified therapist on-site and a talented team of teachers dedicated to improving children’s lives, Access School is well equipped to support young people with special educational needs.
The school offers bespoke education for children aged 6-16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH), learning difficulties (LD) and mild learning difficulties (MLD). Young people with attachment difficulties, autism and ADHD have thrived in this learning environment, which includes a therapeutic village, sensory rooms and story massage among many other features.

Staff help pupils to understand why education is important. The curriculum is broad and provides pupils with a wide range of experiences. Pupils gain an appropriate depth of knowledge in most subjects.
Greeted with a warm smile each morning, pupils are encouraged to take part in a range of purposeful activities to help them learn. Most pupils, who in the past would have refused to join in, show interest in their work and participate willingly. This is because teachers know pupils very well and usually plan suitable work.
The Access School team are committed to helping children and young people achieve their full potential as we teach and guide. Access School is a vibrant, enjoyable place for children to develop themselves. Our aim is to do the best for each and every one of our young people. For them to be the best they can be.
Access School is an ordered, purposeful and stimulating school that recognises pupil’s progress, differences and values. We work in partnership with outside agencies to encourage pupils to become responsible and self-disciplined citizens.
Young people’s progress and development is paramount and central to all that we do.
